Whether in safety, health, or well-being, these are at the core of our well-being at Belron Canada. Under the Vice President of People and Culture, the incumbent will play a key role in managing the Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) team, ensuring that we excel in health, safety, and well-being.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of People and Culture, the selected individual will contribute to the development of strategies, policies, programs, standards, and plans that promote a culture and brand focused on excellence in health, safety, and well-being, positioning the company as a leader in HSW among its employees and clients.

They will play an important role in developing and enhancing engagement, awareness, and skills within the company and among our employees, thus enabling the implementation of HSW strategies and plans nationwide.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the London headquarters in advancing the HSW culture, deploying key guidelines, and management tools.
  • Take the lead on deploying the management system action plan, including development, change management, and communication of new policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Act as an expert and resource person on occupational health and safety (OHS) issues. Provide coaching and training to managers and employees on safety culture, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Participate in identifying, assessing, and documenting health and safety risks for employees at work, and recommend technical, organizational, or personal protective measures as necessary in collaboration with managers.
  • Support and assist HSW advisors in prevention: conducting investigations and analyses of work accidents/incidents and associated corrective measures.
  • Ensure emergency preparedness by maintaining processes, structures, and resources that ensure effective management of emergency situations.
  • Ensure that records and accounting of various data, information, audit follow-ups, risk portfolios, etc. related to health and safety are up to date by the teams.
  • Lead financial reviews of claims files with our external provider and regularly follow up with the technician for proper claims management.
  • Stay informed of evolving regulatory and legislative requirements as well as trends in HSW, and take action to ensure that programs, policies, and practices comply.
  • Present results, lessons learned from experiences, and support managers in OHS leadership and prevention.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards for headquarters and management committees.
  • Promote prevention, awareness, and engagement in HSW throughout the organization.
  • Recommend annual OHS performance targets to continue improving established results and activities.
  • Lead the HSW team (2 people) and provide support to direct reports.
  • Build a rigorous continuous improvement approach to evolve the level of maturity in health and safety.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sciences or Human Resources. Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (essential).
  • Years of experience: minimum 15 years.
  • Relevant multi-site experience in Canada and knowledge of various practices and laws applicable to OHS.
  • Experience in retail within corporate and franchised businesses and distribution is a plus.
  • Experience in claims management and supplier management.
  • Must be able to influence staff to implement different procedures and rules, as well as to enforce and maintain corporate standards.
  • Must be attentive to employees and managers to understand OHS issues well and make recommendations accordingly.
  • Ability to manage time and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Structured, organized mindset with attention to detail.
  • Agility and comfort in adapting to change.
  • Proficient in French and English for internal and external communications.
